The Fears surrounding AI and the gaming industry are prevalent. With gaming industry executives pushing the use of AI, and developers having a notable reluctance to use the new technology. Game design is a notably creativity-led industry, with 2D/3D artists, composers, programmers, designers, etc., being notable jobs currently being replaced.
As an aspiring game designer, I have felt the direct effects of AI in the industry already, despite still being in school. My specific specialty is 2D art, and with this, I have thus seen AI already being an expectation in implementation in jobs. From brainstorming character design to having clients show example works of AI to be recreated. Aside from the obvious fears of AI in my future, however, there are shreds of hope in what can be constituted as the bleak future of artists. AI art is not copyrightable. It’s a simple statement that will continue to protect artists. I’ve viewed panels of professional industry artists talk about how, as long as corporations want to own their own art, they will continue to use original art. However much companies may be pushing AI, it is not protected, and it will continue to be extremely difficult to protect in any legal capacity.
